At the invitation of Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Speaker of the Jordanian Lower House Mazen Turki El Qadi paid an official visit to Vietnam from May 2nd. 2.

On the afternoon of February 2nd, immediately after the official welcoming ceremony was solemnly held at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi and the high-level delegation of the two countries' Parliaments.

At the talks, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man informed about the results of the 14th Party Congress, the preparation for the 16th National Assembly election and emphasized the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, multilateralization, diversification, and readiness to actively and responsibly contribute to peace, stability and cooperation on the basis of respecting the United Nations Charter and international law.

Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam for the first time, saying that after the visit to Vietnam, King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan repeatedly mentioned his impression of Vietnam's three special points: "geographical location, political views and role and position in the region".

Admiring Vietnam's development achievements, the Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives emphasized that Jordan considers Vietnam as a "magic of economic and technological development", affirming that Jordan highly values and wishes to strengthen "limitless" cooperation with Vietnam. The Speaker of the House of Representatives especially appreciated Vietnam's position, balanced views and support for the Palestinian issue.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi agreed to continue to strengthen political and diplomatic relations, considering this an important foundation to promote comprehensive cooperation; strengthen delegation exchanges, especially high-level delegations and between specialized committees of the two countries' National Assemblies.

The two leaders agreed to promote the presence and support of citizens and businesses of the two countries, including considering opening permanent representative offices in the two countries.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi agreed that it is necessary to strengthen exchanges and share legislative experiences, update information on the organizational structure and activities of parliaments of each country; promote exchanges and cooperation between parliamentarians, including researching the establishment of the Friendship Parliamentary Group.

Regarding economic and trade cooperation, the two sides believe that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is still large. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that Vietnam wishes to expand cooperation with Jordan in the fields of economy - trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, education - training, health; promote cooperation in areas where the two sides have strengths to complement each other, in which he hopes Jordan will support saltwater intrusion prevention technology using coral reefs in the Mekong Delta.

After the talks, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the House of Representatives of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan", creating a framework to promote parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
